The inaugural season was kicked off recently. The new league is sanctioned with Slo-pitch National and all league teams will qualify to play in the provincial tournament in Niagara Falls later this year. In the opening game of the season, the early favourites, Grumpy’s Blue, beat the Long Sault Flyers 7–4. The veteran Wayne McNulty led this young team going 3–3 while Jesse Smith for the Flyers made a spectacular inning-ending catch to stop a big inning by the eventual winners. Master Batters and Bottoms Up played to an 11–11 tie. For the Master Batters, Shawn Crawford and Mike Hodge went 3–4, and for Bottoms, Derek Dunlop was 3–3 at the plate. Grumpy’s Blue beat Master Batters 7–4. For the Blue, Shawna Campeau went 3–4 at the plate while Liam Coleman was 3–4 and Aubrey Lauzon crushed a home run over the fence for Master Batters. Bottoms Up outscored the Flyers 9–8. For Bottoms Up, Lindsey Wells was 2–4, Lindsey Whaley had 3 RBI and Travis Cox belted a homer. Grumpy’s Blue won over Bottoms Up 20–6. Mark Suprenaut went 4–4 with a grand slam; Shawna Campeau was 4–5; and Randy McNulty was 3–3 for Blue. Travis Cox was 3–3 with a home run and Nick Lamese went 2–2 for Bottoms Up. Renegades and Phatty Kats played a back-and-forth game with the ’Gades hanging on for a 16-15 victory. Andre Clement led the winners going 2–2 and Lisa St. Denis went 3–3 in a losing cause for Phatty Kats. Bottoms Up outscored Shell Speedy Lube 23–14. For the winners, A.K. Andrew was 4–4 HR and RBI, Dave McCourt was 3–5, 3 RBI and 1 HR and old-timer Kim Ferguson struck out 6 players.
