CORNWALL, Ontario – The A&W at 422 Ninth Street in Cornwall will be distributing identification booklets on May 25 in honour of National Missing Children’s Day.
“All the mother and fathers who come here, they receive a free a booklet on that day,” said Jean Bédard, President of the Missing Children’s Network in Cornwall. “So they have the chance to put a profile, picture, DNA and fingerprint. So if the kid is missing or ran away, this is easy to give to the police forces.”
According to Bédard, the non-profit Missing Children’s Network in Cornwall covers cases in Eastern Ontario and Quebec.
The Missing Children’s Network provides support services for the families of children who are missing by working closely with investigators and publishing updates on their website and social media, according to Bédard. Bédard has noticed how quickly word spreads through platforms like Facebook, and emphasized how vital they are in search efforts.
In November of 2017, the network opened official headquarters in the Cornwall Care Centre on Second Street. The organization focuses on missing children but often discusses and alerts the public of missing adults as well.
Bédard has 2,500 booklets to distribute during the hours of 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. He is very thankful that A&W decided to advocate for awareness of the national day this year.
