SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – The Ministry of Transportation has confirmed for the United Counties of SD&G that the bridge on County Rd. 15, also known as the Avonmore Rd. bridge, will re-open the week of June 4.
Construction began on the bridge at the end of April 2017 and was scheduled to be completed by the end of this past November.
“The County looks forward to seeing the road finally opened,” said Benjamin de Haan, Director of Transportation and Planning Services for the United Counties of SD&G. “Ministry officials have remained committed to ensuring that the end result will be a quality structure, and I trust that this bridge will provide our road users years of excellent, uninterrupted service”.
The MTO said that the total cost of the contract was $6.95 million, and that there has been no increased cost due to the delay.
Once Avonmore Rd. bridge is re-opened, the Wales Dr. bridge will then be closed for replacement. That bridge is scheduled to re-open in the fall of 2018.
