CORNWALL, Ontario – The Rasin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) issued a Water Safety Statement for its area.
“The Raisin Region Conservation Authority is advising caution near local rivers and creeks,” the RRCA statement reads. “The recent precipitation and unseasonably warm temperatures is resulting in rapid snow melt and ice breakup. Water levels are currently rising and water is moving quickly. Water is currently contained within the river banks for the most part, and wide-scale flooding is not expected at this time. “
The RRCA covers Cornwall, South Glengarry, most of South Stormont and North Glengarry and a part of North Stormont.
In addition to the Water Safety Statement, Environment Canada has had a Rainfall Warning across the region of the United Counties of SD&G since Monday.
“This wet, record mild spell is attributed to a series of low pressure systems moving along a warm front draped across the lower Great Lakes,” the Environment Canada Warning reads. “Total rainfall amounts from Monday night though today will likely be in the 30 to 50 mm range for some areas.”
The Weather Network is predicting that the daily high temperatures will not fall below zero for the rest of the month.
