INGLESIDE, Ontario – The Ingleside Firefighters Association will be celebrating their 60th anniversary on July 21 with a big bash in front of the Ingleside Shopping Plaza.
This event will be taking place instead of the annual Firefighter’s Challenge.
“The organizing committee chose to plan an event honouring the creation of our community an its 60th anniversary,” said Jennifer MacIsaac, event organizer. “We heard that no other group was planning a celebration so we decided to take it upon ourselves to switch our focus in that direction. Although our Ingleside Challenge had grown to be the biggest in the area, the summer competitions in other communities had started to diminish.”
MacIsaac explained that the event was down to four firefighter’s challenges from nine in previous years.
Features of the event this year include: inflatables, pony rides, face painting, a barbeque, entertainers and a dunk tank. There will also be musical performances from three bands including The Shiners, Kilts, Riffs and Spurs and Hadrian’s Wall.
“This is the twelfth year that the Association hosts a summer event on the third Saturday in July” stated Stacy Charlebois, Committee Chair. “It’s become somewhat of a homecoming weekend for many friends and family who no longer live in the area and we are hopeful that this year will be no different especially since it’s the 60th Anniversary for our community.”
The event is free to attend thanks to the support of local sponsors. Any business wishing to support the event is encouraged to call Paul MacIsaac at 613-537-2555.
