CORNWALL & UNITED COUNTIES of SD&G, Ontario – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the region around Cornwall.
“An area of thunderstorms north of eastern Lake Ontario is moving very slowly eastward and could give torrential downpours to Eastern Ontario late this afternoon into this evening,” the statement from Environment Canada reads. “Rainfall amounts in excess of 50 mm are possible.”
According to The Weather Network, thunderstorms are expected to begin in the area at around 5 p.m. and continue until midnight. The rain will continue into Thursday morning.
“Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall,” Environment Canada explains on their website.
