Dear Editor:
With the Ontario Auditor General’s damning report on the mishandling of the protected Greenbelt land, it is time for Premier Doug Ford and the Municipal Affairs & Housing Minister Steve Clark to provide accountability.
Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk’s report found that Clark’s office dealings with select developers in the Greenbelt land swaps showed indifference to norms, standards, fairness, and the public interest. It was clear that a few wealthy developers with close ties to the Ford Government were given preferential treatment and 92% of the removed land worth $8.3 Billion.
The report also confirmed that removing land from the Greenbelt was not needed to meet the Ford Government’s housing target.
Municipal Affairs & Housing Minister Steve Clark should take responsibility for the activities in his office and resign. Premier Ford should now recall the Ontario Legislature, restore the Greenbelt land for protection and comply with all the investigations, including a possible RCMP investigation.
Ontarians deserve accountability, transparency and integrity.
