CORNWALL, Ontario – September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and eight-year-old Addisyn Ladouceur wants to do what she can for the cause.
Addisyn is selling coupon books that have been donated by Boston Pizza. All funds raised from the sale of these books will be going to support the Canadian Cancer Society in SD&G and Prescott-Russell designated to supporting childhood cancer.
“I’m excited to help kids that are sick. If everybody does their small part we can make a big difference,” said Addisyn.
Over the years, money raised for research has helped increase survival rates for children who have been diagnosed with cancer. Today, 83 percent of all children diagnosed with cancer will survive and go on to lead healthy lives.
While great strides have been made, childhood cancer is still the number one cause of disease related death in children. The three most common types of cancer in children are leukemia, brain and nervous system cancers and lymphoma.
Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society during the month of September will help them invest in childhood cancer research and will help them provide informational services and support to parents and children who are fighting cancer.
“Throughout the month of September, we remember the young lives taken too soon, stand with the families facing childhood cancer today, and rededicate ourselves to combating this terrible illness. We are so grateful that Addisyn is willing to help our organization support children and families that have been touched by cancer,” said Allison St-Jean, Community Fundraising Specialist, Canadian Cancer Society of SD&G and Prescott-Russell.
