Indie/alternative rock music lovers – mark your calendars! Local bands Us With Wolves and Castles are playing live at the Port Theatre on August 17th along with Ottawa-based post-hardcore band T-Rex Marathon, who released their final album in 2023 and play their last show in Ottawa later this month.

Us With Wolves is looking forward to hosting a great summer concert at a historic venue featuring original songs and covers. The band recently shot a music video for their new single, Along With Him, at the Rendezvous Bar.

“We’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback,” said Taylor Campbell, lead guitarist and back-up vocalist, “It’s really meant to be a really feel-good summer pop rock, indie rock song that kind of gets stuck in your head. We’re really happy with the way it turned out.”

Us With Wolves played the Sunday morning slot at Ribfest on August 30th and will be releasing new music leading up to the Port Theatre show. Fans can expect to hear new songs mixed with alternative and classic rock covers from bands like Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, and more. The band’s original music is influenced by their love of bands like the 1975, Kings of Leon, and Arkells.

In terms of distribution, Campbell shared that they are taking a digital approach to sharing their music.

“It is so convenient and easy for us to write a song, record a song, and release it almost instantly,” Campbell said. Us With Wolves can be found on YouTube, Spotify, and most major streaming platforms.

“The name of the band when we used to play in high school was Bryden Avenue. We played some fun punk, pop/punk type of music and it was really sort of an ode to growing up,” explained Campbell, “Our singer, Ryan, grew up on Bryden Avenue and we would spend a lot of hours playing music in a garage there.”

The group of friends that made up Bryden Avenue graduated from high school and several members went to school to study music. The group changed their name to Us With Wolves in 2013/14 and released a couple of songs mastered by Juno-nominated artists before going on a hiatus. They are happy to be back writing and recording new music for the community to enjoy.

“We think there are a lot of people in this town who love live music,” Campbell told Seaway News, “There’s a great music community here in Cornwall and so far, we’ve seen a lot of support from those music lovers. We really appreciate it, and we hope to keep that momentum going and keep cultivating that fanbase.”
