Murder charge laid in South Glengarry woman’s death

SOUTH GLENGARRY, Ontario – On October 11, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to report of a missing female from a residence on County Road 34, South Glengarry Township. Emilie MAHEU, 26-years-old, of South Glengarry was last seen at approximately 1 p.m. on October 11, 2018, leaving her work in Alexandria, Ontario

On October 13, 2018, at approximately 11:30 a.m., SD&G OPP responded to a report of a body being discovered in South Glengarry Township. The identity of the person is confirmed to be that of Emilie MAHEU, the missing female. 

On October 16, 2018, Brandon SMELTZER, 25-years-old , of Bayside, Nova Scotia was located in New Brunswick and charged with First Degree Murder contrary to Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC). The accused will be transported back to Ontario where he is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.    

The investigation is being conducted by members of SD&G Crime Unit, supported by Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and the East Region Regional Support Team (RST), under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob HAGERMAN, of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
