CORNWALL, Ontario – Current South Stormont Mayor and Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) candidate Jim Bancroft announced that he would withdraw from the race for school board trustee.
Bancroft made the announcement via press release on Monday, Oct. 1.
“Today, I am announcing that due to some ongoing health issues dating back to the first week of August, I am withdrawing from seeking election as an Upper Canada District School Board Trustee,” Bancroft’s press release reads. “In doing so, I also realize my name will remain on the ballot. Today’s announcement will hopefully give all residents the opportunity to review the information on the other candidates, John Danaher and Marshall Wilson, before casting your ballot.”
Bancroft stated that rural education was something that he hoped would stay at the forefront of the discussion.
“The UCDSB faces many challenges in the near term. Rural education should never be discounted, and maintaining our rural schools located in our hamlets and villages must always remain a priority for every trustee seeking your support,” he wrote. “I am sure the remaining candidates will also be supportive.”
The election is on Oct. 22.
