SOUTH GLENGARRY, Ontario – The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) of SDG, as well as partners across the province, want to promote everything purple throughout the month of October.

As part of the Break the Silence campaign, Marlin’s Orchard will be selling purple pumpkins until Oct. 24 for $5.

“We think it’s wonderful to partner up with an organization that’s making it aware that children have rights and those rights should not be abused,” said Diane Lunan, a family owner of Marlin’s Orchard.

According to Julie Clement, HR Director with CAS, everyone in the community is encouraged to decorate their homes or offices purple throughout the month to raise awareness that every child has a right to safety and well-being. The campaign also promotes that it is the responsibility of adults and community services to help children and youth who need support.

Not only have purple pumpkins cropped up to spread awareness about the campaign but local businesses, including Riley’s, are showing their support by selling purple cupcakes. Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocers is also selling purple shirts ahead of Dress Purple Day on Oct. 24, in which all schools, child care centres, community partners and organizations are encouraged to dress purple for Ontario Dress Purple Day.

“Children’s Aid Society of SDG is only a phone call away. Every call is evaluated individually before any action is taken. We believe that children do best when they are at home with their family,” said Clement in a press release.

Everyone is encouraged to #LetsGetPurple to show their support for the campaign. For more information, visit www.cassdg.ca
