As many of you know, on Saturday evening, there was an incident which involved a shooting in our community. I have shared the most recent statement from the Cornwall Police Service, and there will be more information which will follow as the investigation continues. Any questions about the investigation should be directed to the Cornwall Police Service.
I know that right now people are scared and are worried, and this is completely understandable. From what we are learning, this incident involved elements of organized crime, ie, certain motorcycle gangs. There are three wounded individuals and a number in custody as well. This was an isolated incident and there is no further threat to public safety.
I am grateful for the quick reaction of our first responders. In particular the Cornwall Police Service and Cornwall SDG Paramedic Service. Their quick reactions ensured that the situation was quickly in hand, prevented further injuries, and saved lives. I want to thank both services for their professionalism.
Our community, like many, has its share of crime. However, it is exceedingly rare and shocking to see this level of violence happen in one of our busiest areas. I am saddened that this has taken place. I want to reiterate again, that there is no further threat to public safety. As I was out today, I saw many residents carrying on with their daily lives and that is exactly what we should be doing.
I also want to say this emphatically. There is no home here for organized crime. We don’t want you here. Point finale. The Cornwall Police will always have my full support as they continue this investigation and crack down on these criminal elements in our community. #cwlpoli #onmuni
