LANCASTER, Ontario – On Jan. 15, 2018, Enbridge awarded the Township of South Glengarry’s Fire Services with a grant of $10,000 through their Safe Community Program. The program awards grants to local first-response emergency services in rural communities across North America.
“With operations and employees in communities across Canada and the United States, we believe it’s essential to be involved in those communities to help make them healthy, vibrant and, ultimately, better places to live,” stated Ken Hall, a Senior Advisor, Community Engagement with Enbridge, “The safety of the communities in which we operate, and the people who live and work along our system, remain our highest priority. That’s why we’re proud to support the organizations that help to keep our communities safe.”
Fire Chief Dave Robertson applied for the grant to assist with a Flammable Liquids (Class B) Equipment and Training Project. Given South Glengarry’s location along major transportation corridors, as well as pipeline and distribution companies operating within the municipality, Chief Robertson identified a need to train members of the Fire Service to respond to possible hazards due to emergencies with flammable liquids and chemicals.
“On behalf of South Glengarry Fire Services, I would like to thank Enbridge for this generous donation,” stated Fire Chief Dave Robertson, “This grant will be used towards the upgrading and purchase of equipment, as well as training that will allow us to mitigate flammable liquid fires within our municipality. Our members are proud to be able to offer this service to both residents and visitors to South Glengarry.”
