On Monday, June 19, Chartwell Chateau Cornwall Retirement Residence held a special $5/card Baldwin House Bingo Fundraising Event. The event was part of a month-long campaign to raise money for Maison Baldwin House, an organization that supports local women who are victims of domestic violence.
All month long, residents can choose to donate their winnings back to Baldwin House. Residents could also win other prizes, including free meal vouchers to enjoy a meal with a friend or family member in Chartwell’s elegant dining room.
When asked why Chartwell chose to support Baldwin House, Retirement Living Consultant Sabrina McTaggart, shared, “A lot of our female residents actually knit items for Baldwin House. Whenever we would ask them what organization they would like us to fundraise for, the majority of the women said Baldwin House.”
Approximately 15 residents came together to play the $5/card game, and free games will continue until the end of the month. Chartwell’s Lifestyle and Program Manager, Chantal, is the caller for the bingo games.
“She’s amazing. She’s always looking for something to do, always looking for an organization to help,” McTaggart said, “I’m so fortunate to be working with her because she always says yes to everything.”
Last year the group ran a different month-long fundraiser for Baldwin House.
“We implemented all different activities all month long and then any time a resident won, they could either choose to take the prize whether it was a pop or a bag of chips or we would donate $1 on their behalf,” McTaggart explained.
When they were finished Chartwell coordinated with Baldwin House to find out some items that they needed. Chartwell used the money raised to buy said items and displayed them in the lounge to show residents what their winnings did for Baldwin House before delivering them.
