CORNWALL, Ontario – Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cornwall and District hosted their fourth annual Wing it for Kids Sake on Friday, June 1 at the Cornwall Legion. Tickets have sold out every year.

“Wing it for Kids Sake is an event that we hold every year, for the past four years,” said Jillian Hendry, Fundraising Coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters. “Basically it’s just eating wings. We get sauces from all over the community and they get to taste all the different sauces, and then they get to vote on them. Then we crown the best [wing] sauce in Cornwall. It’s all for a good cause. We have seven different mentoring programs and it raises money for that.”

Eight sauces were provided by Cornwall and Alexandria restaurants. Everyone who purchased a ticket got to vote on their favourite sauce. The sauces remained anonymous until the voting was finished. The Smokin’ Bull finished in first place, Dekes and Squeaks placed second and Shoeless Joes placed third.

Each restaurant that contributed a sauce was an event sponsor, and Dairy Queen sponsored desserts. Members of the Big Brothers Big Sisters helped to host the event. Live music was provided by Twisted Kilt.

Tickets were $25. Last year’s event raised $5,000 through ticket sales.

“You can never go wrong with wings, beer and live music,” said Hendry.
