INGLESIDE, Ontario – The Zummach Family of Rasinview Farms in Ingleside has been selected to be one of ten families to receive the BMO Ontario Farm Family Award at the International Plowing Match this year.

“It came as a surprise to me to learn that we were nominated. It’s not something we expected. It’s certainly a pleasure for our family to have been nominated and now we’ll be a recipient of that award,” said David Zummach. “It just encourages our kids that family involvement and community involvement are a very important part of rural life. Agriculture and the rural lifestyle are an important part of the economy.”

The Zummachs are being recognized because of their dedication to agriculture and rural lifestyle.

“BMO has a long history of supporting the agricultural community, and we are proud to join with the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo, in order to honour these families and their contributions to the rural way of life that is at the very heart of Canada,” said Julie Barker-Merz, Senior Vice-President, South Western Ontario Division, BMO Bank of Montreal.  “The BMO Ontario Farm Family Awards recognizes the contributions made by farmers across the province, from their deep roots in the community to the stewardship of the lands on which they work, and the values of hard work and commitment that they embody. These 11 families demonstrate how heritage and innovation can work hand in hand to further farming in the province.”

The Zummach family farm began when Orin moved to Lunenburg in 1940 from Killaloe. Orin’s sons, Mervin and David eventually formed a partnership that became Raisinview Farms.

Raisinview Farms has 130 dairy cows, and has been recognized with awards from the Stormont County Fair, and David and Barbara Ann have both received Ontario Agricultural Service Diplomas.

The International Plowing Match is taking place Sept. 18 to 22 in Chatham-Kent.
