Cornwall’s Junior Optimist Club recently announced that they will be hosting dances for grades 7 to 10 on the last Friday of the month, running from February to June. The first dance will take place on Friday, February 24th from 7 to 10pm (doors open at 6:30). Dances will be held at the Cornwall Civic Complex, in Salon B.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, monthly dances used to take place for grades 7 and 8 at La Citadelle. In this new iteration, JOI members decided to open them up to students in grades 9 and 10 also. The idea of the dances is to offer something different to Cornwall youth and give them an opportunity to meet new people.
The Junior Optimist Club is a group of youth in grades 7 to 11 who want to learn life skills and do community work. Austin Nelson, Secretary for the Junior Optimist Club of Cornwall has been a member since August of 2021.
“Honestly my experience with JOI has been amazing. Leadership abilities have improved a lot, being able to speak in front of a crowd is much easier now than it used to be, and I got to meet so many new people,” Nelson told Seaway News.
The Junior Optimist Club of Cornwall is always looking for volunteers to help out with events and welcomes new members.
