CDSBEO Week began in 2018, as an opportunity for schools to live the Board spiritual theme and Catholic social teachings. Schools celebrate CDSBEO Week with special assemblies, food drives, awards presentations, celebratory gatherings and lunches, and through other initiatives centered around love and kindness. Thanks to the efforts of staff and students, CDSBEO week was celebrated in a variety of meaningful ways in classrooms, schools, and in the community.
Renee Rozon, Principal of Religious and Family Life Education and Equity and Inclusion, shared details on CDSBEO Week 2022, which took place October 17-21. Activities prepared for each day of the week focused on the second part of CDSBEO’s spiritual theme, “Together We Are God’s Good News” and sub-themes were developed around the board’s acronym; C – Community, D – Diversity, S – Student Voice, B – Belonging, and for the last two letters, E and O – EveryOne. For each day, the Religion & Family Life and Equity & Inclusion Department prepared a prayer, video, and a mindfulness reflection to support the sub-theme. Additionally, schools were provided with a variety of challenges as suggested activities for classroom or whole school initiatives.
“Examples such as carrying out random acts of kindness, taking pictures of things in the school that make you feel welcome, or writing a kindness note to someone you don’t know very well, were some of the suggested activities,” noted Principal Rozon.
Schools also took time to reach out to members of the community through letters of thanks, food drives, and visits to seniors’ residences.
“You have certainly captured the activities that took place throughout this very special week. It was wonderful to watch on social media how the schools adapted the different themes. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for sharing details of how this week came to life within our schools,” concluded Chair Wilson.
