WATERTOWN – Maxime Guyon’s second goal of the game with 24 seconds to play in regulation was the difference as the Cornwall Nationals skated to a 5-3 victory over the Wolves in Watertown on Tuesday night.
Sebastien Dube-Rochon was outstanding in goal for the Nationals, turning aside 47-of-50 shots to earn the victory.
Eric Witzel and Daniel Martin also scored for Cornwall, while Brandon Gilmour added an empty netter in the dying seconds of the contest.
Martin Trudman chipped in a pair of helpers for the first-place Nationals, who improved to 10-3-0-0-2 on the season.
Cornwall hits the road for Carolina this weekend for three tilts with the Thunderbirds.
The Nationals are in action Friday (7:35 p.m.), Saturday (6:05 p.m.) and Sunday (8:35 p.m.) in Carolina.
Cornwall is back on home ice on Sunday, Jan. 7 when the North Shore Knights visit the Civic Complex. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
COACH TROTTS: The Nationals will be without head coach Joel Trottier until the New Year. Trottier is on a personal leave from the Federal Hockey League team.
