CORNWALL, Ontario – Lamoureux Park was bustling with activity this Saturday, Aug. 12 as Your Arts Council (YAC) celebrated art in its many forms at their second annual YACabuskalooza busker festival.
While the forecast managed to scare a few buskers away, spirits remained high throughout the event. With imported act, Junkyard Symphony stealing the show with their energetic afternoon performance, the day also offered a fair assortment of local talent[DA1] .
The event was created in response to last year’s approval of the proposal to allow busking in the City of Cornwall.
“The city had recently approved busking as a concept,” said YAC facilitator Richard Salem. “So, we said ‘let’s do a busker festival – and YACabuskalooza was born.”
Montreal-born guitarist, Michael Taiger said that while busking is deeply ingrained in Montreal culture, it’s refreshing to see it in celebrated in Cornwall.
“This a great event, because people who wouldn’t necessarily have the exposure get the chance to perform,” said Taiger.
The event featured some great live music, dance, puppetry, and a rare appearance by the sun.
“Anybody who is local and performs can come and busk here,” said Salem. “It’s fun, it’s free, if you aren’t here, you’ve missed it, and you will have to wait another year.”
