TORONTO — Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (20,819.09, up 28.36 points.) 

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Energy. Up 52 cents, or one per cent, to $51.94 on 19.9 million shares. 

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Financials. Up 33 cents, or 1.4 per cent, to $23.61 on 17.4 million shares.

Western Energy Services Corp. (TSX:WRG). Energy. Down half a cent, or 9.1 per cent, to five cents on 15.3 million shares.

Athabasca Oil Corp. (TSX:ATH). Energy. Up nine cents, or 2.9 per cent, to $3.15 on 13 million shares.

Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB). Energy. Up 34 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to $59.27 on 10.2 million shares.

Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. (TSX:TVE). Energy. Up 32 cents, or 5.7 per cent, to $5.94 on 8.9 million shares.

Companies in the news: 

Descartes Systems Group (TSX:DSG). Up $1.18 or 1.5 per cent to $80.33. Descartes Systems Group is buying U.S. company XPS Technologies in a deal worth up to US$140 million. XPS provides cloud-based parcel shipping services to small, medium and large e-commerce shippers. It helps customers reduce transportation costs by importing orders, comparing carrier rates, printing shipping labels and tracking packages through final delivery. Descartes CEO Edward Ryan says XPS complements the company’s significant investments in e-commerce fulfilment and shipping. Under the agreement, Descartes has agreed to an upfront payment of about US$65 million in cash. The Ontario-based software company has also agreed to pay up to an additional US$75 million in performance-based consideration related to revenue-based targets in each of the first two years post-acquisition.

Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TECK.B). Up 47 cents to $55.77. Teck Resources Ltd. says it is moving to protect 14,000 hectares of wildlife habitat in Canada and Chile. The plan includes a $2-million donation to the Nature Conservancy of Canada for the purchase and ongoing management of nearly 8,000 hectares of land in the East Kootenays of British Columbia. The company will also donate to the NCC about 162 hectares of Teck-owned land near Kimberley, B.C., plus $600,000 for the ongoing management of the land. In Chile, the company says 5,800 hectares of a wetland ecosystem near its Quebrada Blanca operations will be protected in partnership with the Ollagüe Quechua community. Teck also announced $10 million to create an Indigenous stewardship fund and $12 million in new funding to the Nature Conservancy of Canada to support priority conservation projects in B.C. Teck says it has set a goal of conserving or rehabilitating at least three hectares of land for every one hectare affected by its mining activities.
