Final four players qualify for RBC Canadian Open, Canadian Hunt misses out in playoff

TORONTO — Patrick Flavin finished 3-under 68 for top spot in the Monday qualifier for the RBC Canadian Open.

Amateur Piercen Hunt, who was born in Calgary, Braden Thornberry, Jeffrey Kang and Brad Adamonis tied for second a shot back of Flavin.

After a two-hole playoff at Oakdale Golf and Country Club, Thornberry, Kang and Adamonis earned the remaining three berths at the national men’s golf championship.

Amateur Ashton McCulloch of Kingston, Ont., and Matthew Anderson of Mississauga, Ont., tied for sixth at 1-under 70, missing the playoff by a stroke.

The Canadian Open tees off on Thursday at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto’s west end.

Travel restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the past two years of the Canadian Open.
