TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
Economic report card
Statistics Canada will report its gross domestic product figures for March and the first quarter as a whole on Tuesday. The agency’s early estimate for March indicated a gain of 0.5 per cent for the month, following an increase of 1.1 per cent in February.
Interest rate announcement
The Bank of Canada will make its interest rate announcement on Wednesday. The central bank is widely expected by economists to raise its key interest rate target by half a percentage point to 1.5 per cent. Bank of Canada deputy governor Paul Beaudry is scheduled to give a speech and hold a news conference on Thursday.
Laurentian Bank results
Laurentian Bank of Canada will release its second-quarter results and hold a conference call with financial analysts on Wednesday morning. The bank has been working to revamp its retail business as part of a major turnaround plan.
Home sales
Home sales figures for some of Canada’s largest cities are expected this week. Calgary is expected to report its May sales results on Wednesday followed by Greater Vancouver on Thursday. Montreal and Toronto are set to release their results on Friday.
Lululemon results
Lululemon Athletica Inc. will release its first-quarter results after the close of markets and hold a conference call with financial analysts on Thursday. The retailer said last month that it plans to double its 2021 revenue by 2026.
