Windsor Spitfires take 2-0 series lead with 4-1 win over Sarnia Sting

WINDSOR, Ont. — Will Cuylle scored a pair of goals to lead the Windsor Spitfires to a 4-1 victory over the Sarnia Sting and take a 2-0 series lead in the first-round OHL playoff series Saturday.

Wyatt Johnston picked up three assists in the Windsor win, notching a helper on each of the Cuylle goals.

Nolan Dann scored the Sting’s lone goal of the game.

His marker at 4:45 of the third period ended a scoreless drought Sarnia had been mired in over the course of the series’ first two games.

The Spitfires have now outscored the Sting 7-1 in the series.

Sarnia goalie Benjamin Gaudreau made 39 saves in the loss while his Windsor counterpart, Mathias Onuska, made 22 and picked up the win.

Game 3 goes Tuesday, with the series shifting to Sarnia.

Elsewhere Saturday, the North Bay Battalion took a 2-0 series lead with a 7-6 win over the Ottawa 67’s, the Flint Firebirds evened their series with the Owen Sound Attack with a 6-3 thrashing and the Soo Greyhounds also went up 2-0 in their series with the Guelph Storm after cruising to a 4-1 victory.
