CORNWALL – Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry member of Parliament Eric Duncan has chosen a side in the Conservative Party leadership race, backing Carleton MP Pierre Poilievre.
“I’m proud and excited to support Pierre Poilievre,” Duncan announced on social media March 28. “The energy and enthusiasm his campaign is building shows that Pierre’s vision is bringin in new Conservative in every part of the country and from every walk of life.”
Duncan had recently resigned from the policy committee that oversees the leadership race saying at the time he was planning to endorse a candidate.
Poilievre is one of 11 candidates running for the CPC leadership and a perceived front runner. Other candidates include former Quebec Premier Jean Charest, Brampton Mayor and former Ontario Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown, and MP Leslyn Lewis – who also ran for the CPC leadership in 2020 finishing third in that contest.
Poilievre was the first candidate to announce he was seeking the CPC leadership following the vote of non-confidence and resignation of Erin O’Toole in February. Duncan backed O’Toole in the 2020 leadership race and was a key member in O’Toole’s election campaign in September 2021 hosting many of the virtual townhall appearances by the party leader.
CPC members will elect their new leader on September 10.
