Cornwall Ontario – British Columbia. Nova Scotia. Virginia. Arizona. That’s just a small sampling of the places that runners are registering from for the 2022 St. Lawrence Marathon on Saturday, April 30th.
The popular race has already surpassed 485 registrations with 80 per cent of participants hailing from outside of the Cornwall region. The growing field includes competitors from across Ontario and Quebec as well as the Maritimes, western Canada and even the United States.
“There is a lot of interest in the race and it’s great to see so many out-of-town runners registering,” said race director Sebastian Warner. “The marathon is a great opportunity to showcase our community and waterfront to visitors. Of course, local runners are always welcome to participate and there’s still plenty of space. We’re hoping for a field of 700 participants.”
The location, beauty and ease of access for the race has made it a can’t-miss event for many. It’s a Boston qualifier marathon too, which appeals to many. The race follows the beautiful Riverside Trail – part of the larger Waterfront Trail – from Crysler Park Marina near Morrisburg to St. Lawrence College in Cornwall. In addition to the marathon, there’s also half-marathon (21.1K), 10K and 5K distances to challenge participants.
“We have a beautiful, safe route and it always generates positive comments from visiting runners,” Mr. Warner added.
Following a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, spirits are running high for the race’s return in 2022.
“We’re excited to bring the marathon back and get back into the swing of things,” said Mr. Warner.
