CORNWALL, Ontario – The Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has announced that on Monday, Aug. 9 that registered practical nurses, personal support workers, environmental cleaners, and other hospital workers will hold a rally outside of the Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH).

The rally, which will be held between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., will be to protest the treatment of Premier Doug Ford’s government of hospital workers.

Specifically at issue is wages, which the unions claim are being kept at one-third the rate of inflation, as well as access to mental health supports and other issues.

“At Monday’s Cornwall rally, hospital workers will ask for respect and better pandemic protections – safety measures, which will also benefit patients. In addition to getting Bill 124 repealed, they want the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) the umbrella group for hospital employers, to take several concessions, including language around seniority and retirement packages, off the table,” reads a joint statement from the OCHU and CUPE.
