MORRISBURG, Ontario – The bats were hot for the first game of the 2021 season for the Seaway Surge 13U team as they took on the visiting Bytown Dodgers July 7 at the Morrisburg Waterfront Park ball diamond.
Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, the Surge connected in the second, scoring 11 runs.
The team added four runs in the third and six runs in the fourth inning, defeating the visiting Dodgers 21-9.
Seaway batters connected with 13 hits across four innings, and committed three errors. Bytown had four hits and made five errors in the game.
Morrisburg’s Rowan McCooeye scored three runs for the Surge, including a double, and a single, and was struck out once. He was among four batters who scored three runs in the game including Cohen Gill, Matt Lewis, and Nolan Kennelly.
Cooper Smith had four RBIs in the game while Ben Drew led the team in stolen bases.
Seaway’s bullpen of Lewis, Gill, and Drew, combined for nine strikeouts, walked six batters, and allowed only one home run across the five inning game.
Bytown’s Riley Stamplecoskie connected for the only home run in the game.
The Surge travelled to Kanata on July 10 and the team’s next home game is July 19 at the Morrisburg waterfront park.
