CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) is celebrating after reaching a significant milestone in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The CCH has announced that their clinical and pharmaceutical staff have administered their 10,000th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“We are happy to be working with the Eastern Ontario Health Unit to offer residents in Cornwall with more access to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. Every dose administered brings us one step closer to ending the pandemic, and I couldn’t be more proud of our CCH team for reaching this milestone,” said Jeanette Despatie, President and CEO of CCH.
Since March 13, the CCH has been holding a vaccination clinic in its main entrance hall, at first to accommodate the most at-risk patients in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU), but later transitioned to accepting appointments for other eligible individuals through the provincial vaccine booking website.
The hospital has been administering 170 doses a day, but they expect to expand that capacity as demand rises.
The CCH is reminding residents that the EOHU says there is no risk in mixing first and second doses, as mixing Pfizer and Moderna vaccines has been deemed safe.
“We have been working to organize and operate the clinic so that it runs efficiently, effectively, and above else, safely for everyone,” said Despatie. This is especially important to consider as the province moves up its timelines for administering second doses due to the emerging Delta variant. The best vaccine for your second dose is the vaccine that is available first.”
