In the final game of the preliminary round the Lions again dominated, this time against the host team from Belleville. In that game Woods scored 21 points while Fontaine, Legault and McDonald added 6 points each. Fourkiotis, Pilon and Abby Alejandrino also scored in a 47-28 Lions victory.
The Championship game in the A division featured a rematch between the Lions and the Clippers. In this game it was the Lions defense that led the way. The Lions starting unit struggled to score early and the Lions were held to only 3 points in the first quarter. But at the defensive end of the floor, Georgia Zummach, and Woods led the way with spectacular defensive performances. With help from the rest of the starters as well as outstanding contributions by Legault and Abby Alejandrino during their limited minutes, the Lions defense held the Clippers to a single point to take a 14-1 half time lead. Pilon, Woods and McDonald once again led the scoring with a combined 28 points in the Lions 41-21 championship victory. “It was a great start to the season” said coach Brian Hickey. “I’m proud of every one of these girls, the defensive performance in the final game was one of the most impressive things I’ve been part of as a coach.”
