Within 30 feet of $1M at Team Cornwall golf tournament

CORNWALL, Ontario – With a million dollars on the line, Patrick Jacobs accomplished his game plan on Wednesday at Summerheights Golf Links: “hitting the green.”

Despite missing the shot by roughly 30 feet at the ‘Team Cornwall, Mayor and Council Golf Fun Day’ tournament’s million dollar hole-in-one contest, the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino team member gladly accepted a pair of Bose earphones as a consolation prize.

“It would’ve been nice to hit the million…but it didn’t go in the water,” Jacobs joked, the casino’s assistant director of security. “I’m satisfied with hitting the green.”

Over 115 golfers gathered at the ambassador group’s popular event, which included breakfast, 18 holes, cart, lunch, and a buffet meal.

In addition to the high stakes, guests were also treated to live music from father/daughter music duo of Eric and Grace Willison, selfie sticks, on-site portraits by Carol Grant underneath a golf cart suspended dozens of feet in the air (courtesy of event sponsor Herb’s Towing), and a few Jell-O shooters along the way.

“It’s the sponosrs doing unique things that makes this so fun,” said Team Cornwall chair Peter Gault. “It’s not a competitive tournament. It’s about people coming to Cornwall to experience it.”

The event typically raises between $20,000-$30,000 towards offsetting the costs of the non-profit organization’s ambassadorial efforts. Team Cornwall hosts a number of events throughout the year, maintains a popular website, and runs a youth bursary program.

More to come.
