The Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment is seeking any witnesses to a fatal collision that claimed the life of a 14-year-old Ingleside girl shortly before 3:30 pm. August 30. Charlotte Light died when the bike she was riding eastbound on the westbound shoulder of County Road 2, west of Long Sault was struck by a westbound vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
When officers arrived, they found off-duty firefighters and others attempting life-saving measures on the victim, but the teenager was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the car was not physically injured.
Meanwhile, more than $82,000 has been raised for the family of the victim in an online fund-raising drive.
Her parents, Greg and Ashley, described Charlotte as a “beautiful, healthy, and vibrant older sister to five siblings.”
Charlotte was just about to start high school, entering grade 9 at St. Joseph Secondary School. She was an accomplished soccer player who travelled with the Seaway Valley Soccer Club.
“She was an incredibly gifted and budding actress who was an active cast member at the Seaway Valley Theatre Company, and had just joined the cast of three musicals, “Sixth and Broadway,” “All Shook Up,” and “Finding Nemo, Jr.” You rarely saw Charlotte without her nose in a book,” say her parents.
“She was a loyal and outgoing friend to so many young people from Our Lady of Good Council Catholic School in Ingleside. She was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and was often the reader for Mass. Charlotte was absolutely cherished and loved by her entire family, including her grandparents and great-grandparents, her 12 aunts and uncles, and her 32 cousins.”
“Greg and Ashley are facing insurmountable difficulties moving forward, including unforeseen funeral costs. Your contribution will greatly help ease the financial burdens so that they can focus on their family and their way forward without their bright Light, Charlotte,” reads the post.
