CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall has delivered clean and safe drinking water throughout all of 2021.
On Monday, March 28, 2022, the Cornwall City Council received a 2021 Drinking Water Quality Report.
“We’re happy to report that we’ve continuously delivered clean and safe drinking water to the residents and businesses of Cornwall, and that there were no Corrective Actions for our system from January 1 to December 31, 2021,” reads a statement on the report from the Department of Infrastructure & Municipal Works.
The City of Cornwall owns and operates the Cornwall Drinking Water System, a class three water treatment facility, located at 861 Second St. West.
The drinking water is continuously monitored and tested to ensure compliance with regulatory parameters as mandated by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).
The presentation gave a brief explanation on how the system works.
“We have water from the St. Lawrence River and treat it according to standard surface water treatment methods before it’s distributed to your homes and businesses. The Water Purification Plant uses chemically assisted coagulation, and flocculation to remove particles suspended in the raw water. The water is then filtered and treated with UV light and chlorine for disinfection,” reads a statement on the report.
“The City of Cornwall is recognized as a welcoming and healthy community with a strong municipal government providing effective services and infrastructure,” reads a statement in the report from Owen O’Keefe, Water Purification Plant Supervisor.
