CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall Seaway News was purchased by icimédias on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
Seaway News was purchased by icimédias from TC Transcontinental who has owned an operated Seaway News since 2008.
Seaway News employs a staff of 11 people, all of whom have been retained by icimédias. icimédias has also committed to maintain the distribution of Seaway News, meaning that the paper will continue to be distributed weekly in the Ad Bag.
“We’re pleased to announce today that we’ve sold this paper to icimédias,” said Denis Henault, Senior VP of the Distribution Group at TC Transcontinental. “We think readers will be in good hands. We think the readers and clients will be well served going into the future. We are happy with Seaway News will benefit from the experience at icimédias.”
icimédias, owned and operated by Renel Bouchard and Marc-Noël Ouellette, designed the new web platform that Seaway News launched in February. They own 21 newspapers that they purchased from TC Transcontinental in medium and small urban areas.
“Our approach is very local in content and style of management,” said Ouellette. “We plan on bringing a couple of new digital projects into this market. We see ourselves as local news and marketing for local businesses.”
Seaway News General Manager Rick Shaver said that he is very pleased with the sale to icimédias.
“Bringing Seaway News back into the community with an association of all small papers will benefit our readers and advertisers,” said Shaver.
Founded by Shaver and Dick Aubry in 1985, Seaway News has grown from a weekly community newspaper to a news media and marketing company that provides ad sales and news across multiple platforms including a weekly paper, a daily updated website, a presence on all social media platforms and a family of annual magazines that serve Cornwall and the United Counties of SD&G.
