CORNWALL, Ontario – Moving steel at the gym gets heavy when a world of competitors and spectators come to watch, and that is what happened this Saturday.
Weight trainers from around the globe came to Quest in Cornwall to partake in the International Powerlifting Association’s competition, an event designed to test the will and might of the strongest individuals.
Organizer Yael Benyair with the IPA said in an interview “It is just being better than I was yesterday, being stronger. It’s not a fashion statement, it’s about competing with yourself.”
Yael is a competitor as well and can lift close to 500 pounds.
Over 100 people came to spectate close to 50 competitors as they do bench presses, squats and deadlifts that reach an easy 900 pounds.
