CORNWALL, Ontario – Producer Lise Richer, Co-Producer Peter Labelle, Director Cathy Durham and the crew of the Seaway Valley Theatre Company are working to bring another one of Ken Ludwig’s works to the Dream Builder stage in Cornwall.
Lend me a Tenor is a dramatic comedy set in Cleveland, Ohio in 1934.
The story centres around a Cleveland opera company which anxiously awaits the arrival of a major star for an upcoming show.
Through a series of mishaps, the star of the production is taken out of the picture at the last minute, and a last minute look-a-like needs to be found.
While the setup sounds humourous, Director Cathy Durham assures that the themes of the play are mature.
“Hilarity is the middle-ground of the show,” she said. “We laugh every rehearsal.”
Another delightful feature of the show is some singing, it is a play about an opera after all.
“Its about 10 percent singing,” said Durham.
The show premiers on Oct. 14, with showings on Oct. 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 with a matinee on Oct. 23.
Durham encourages fans to get their tickets in advance as they may not be able to count on there being tickets at the door.
“We’ve performed some of Ludwig’s plays in Cornwall before and we’ve had sold out performances,” she said.
