CORNWAL, Ontario – The pilot of a small plane that crash landed Thursday near the Cornwall Regional Airport sustained minor injuries but was otherwise fine.
OPP confirmed the small plane went down near the airport, at a property west of Airport Road in South Glengarry, at about 10:36 a.m. Thursday.
The pilot, a 54-year-old man from Ottawa, was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries sustained in the crash that left a trail of wheel marks in the snow near the airport’s runway.
According to police, a malfunction occurred forced the man to land the plane in a field east of the airport, which caused the single-engine aircraft to flip over on its back.
The airport is located 10 kilometres east of Cornwall near Summerstown.
“The nice ending is that he wasn’t hurt,” said SD&G OPP Const. Joel Doiron.
